A fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the vital waterway, which Iran had effectively closed for nearly four months after Israel and the US began the war in late February. It was briefly reopened after US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a preliminary agreement earlier this week to halt hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.
