Parallel salary and luxury home in Miami: Undisclosed payments to Gianni Infantino that complicate matters for FIFA
One of the companies in charge of the 2026 World Cup registered extra income for the Swiss-Italian executive in 2024.
Gianni Infantino adds a new controversy. According to a revelation by the British newspaper The Times, the President of FIFA received an additional remuneration of $1.76 million in 2024 from a company linked to the organization of the 2026 World Cup. The payment was not included in the salary information disseminated by the body governing international football.
The figure appears in the tax documentation submitted to the Internal Revenue Service of the United States (IRS) by FWC2026 US Inc., a company created for operations related to the planetary competition held in North America.
In its 2024 annual report, FIFA declared income for Infantino of 4.274 billion Swiss francs, equivalent to about $5.13 million. The official breakdown includes $3.12 million in base salary, $1.98 million in variable pay, and nearly $28,800 in fixed allowances.
However, the documents released by the English newspaper indicate that FWC2026 US Inc. registered another $1.76 million in the name of the executive. During that same period, this did not appear in FIFA's transparency report.
The newspaper also identified an item of $626,229 classified as "other remunerations subject to declaration." According to the outlet, part of these resources relate to the rent of a beachfront property in Miami Beach where Infantino resided during the World Cup preparations.
The property was located in Sunset Islands, in Miami Beach. The rent cost several tens of thousands of dollars per month.
The Times states that similar payments were also made in 2025 and 2026. However, no figures have been published for those two years that allow to establish how much additional money the President of FIFA received.
It is worth noting that since 2016, the International Federation has disclosed the remuneration of the President, the members of the Council, and the Secretary General.
In this regard, Miguel Maduro, former chairman of the FIFA Governance Committee, pointed out that omitting payments from companies linked to the organization of the 2026 World Cup constitutes a serious breach of its statutes. "It is a clear violation of the rules if companies linked to FIFA have paid him other amounts and these have not been made public," he said.
"The FIFA regulations impose the obligation of total transparency. And the remuneration subcommittee is not authorized to authorize other forms of remuneration," he added.
FIFA, in turn, explained how their salaries are determined. "FIFA contributes to social security contributions, pension funds, and other contractual labor benefits of the President, as mentioned in the annual report of FIFA. These benefits are communicated to the US authorities in accordance with information requirements," the Zurich-based body pointed out.
However, the institution did not explain why the payment registered by FWC2026 US Inc. did not appear in its public reports.
