The United Nations has awarded three new World Restoration Flagships in Brazil, the Sahel and Saudi Arabia, spotlighting bold efforts to restore degraded landscapes, combat drought and desertification, and strengthen climate resilience. Together, these initiatives aim to restore nearly 5 million hectares by 2030, an area roughly equivalent to 7 million football fields. Recognized under the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), they join 27 existing flagship initiatives and help advance the global goal of restoring 1 billion hectares by 2030.
