The UN points to the lack of "proportionality" in Spanish law in light of the denials.

"The court should have done that to avoid irreparable damage [...] The procedural legislation requires an amendment", points out Casla, recalling that until there is a "viable and fair" housing alternative from the City Council or the corresponding Autonomous Community, "any eviction that may leave someone on the street should be stopped". The Ombudsman has also demanded "urgent measures" from administrations and public powers to prevent the evictions of vulnerable people. At first, the Spanish government blames the City Council and the Community of Madrid for not having prevented the eviction of this 87-year-old woman. A retraction that the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has condemned: "They are trying to dehumanize and cheat us [the Madrid government]", she affirmed in an interview on Thursday before the Business Circle. The Madrid president pulled the thread on the eviction: "It is one of the 25,000 [evictions] that occur each year", she said, and did not hesitate to throw a dart at Catalonia: "For every eviction that occurs in Madrid, there are five in Catalonia". In statements to Catalunya Ràdio, the Minister of Territory and Housing and spokesperson for the Government, Sílvia Paneque, wanted to deny the statement of the President of the Community of Madrid, whom she accused of lying: "She is creating false news to hide her own shame", the minister said. The executive of Pedro Sánchez must negotiate with the members of the government, especially with Junts (which rejected the last decree that included anti-eviction measures), if he wants the measure to move forward. At the same time, Sumar demands that Maricarmen's flat be expropriated to the current owner, the investment fund Urbagestión Desarrollo e Inversión S.L., and also demands a package of measures to freeze rents, as the Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, the head of Childhood, Sira Rego, and the Minister of Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy have said on social networks. This was the fourth eviction that Maricarmen faced. The investment fund proposed a rent increase up to 1,650 euros, which the neighbor of the Madrid neighborhood of Retiro could not afford: she has a pension of 1,350 euros and was currently paying 500 euros in rent because she had an old lease contract. Despite the negotiation attempts, the fund had stalled and rejected any agreement, even that of an anonymous person who wanted to assume the rent. For now, the neighbor spent the night in a Madrid hospital and the City Council of Madrid has guaranteed her an "emergency place" in a residence. Óscar Puente (PSOE) pulls the left back on housing "lessons" In the midst of the social and political impact that Maricarmen's eviction has had, the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente (PSOE), has entered into a direct conflict with the left parties of the State, in particular with Sumar, over their demands regarding housing. "Let's see if all this serves at least so that those who solve the housing problem in a pinch can solve another problem that should be simpler: their own. They just have to agree and not present themselves under 20 flags and give the government to the far-right. This Tuesday, Puente also criticized the left parties of the PSOE for not giving him "lessons" on how to be left-wing.
