Ex-MLB Pitcher Cole Hamels’s Former Missouri Estate Is Headed to Auction

A sprawling lakefront estate in Missouri once built by former MLB star Cole Hamels is headed to auction, and the starting bid is a fraction of what the property was asking two years ago. The 104-acre compound in Branson West, Missouri, will be sold through a bank-ordered online auction beginning September 17, with bidding starting at just under $3 million. That’s less than half of the $7.75 million asking price attached to the property when it was most recently for sale in April—and a steep drop from the $14.5 million ask it carried in 2024. RELATED: Billionaire Bill Koch’s $99 Million Aspen Compound Is Heading to Auction The auction comes after the property was transferred to Regent Bank following the foreclosure of its most recent owners, an Arizona-based couple who purchased the estate from Camp Barnabas in 2021. They spent years renovating the enormous property before running into financial trouble and leaving the project unfinished. There is no indication that Hamels, who originally commissioned the home, is connected to the foreclosure. The former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher began building the estate in 2016 while playing for the Texas Rangers, envisioning it as a dream home for himself and then-wife Heidi Strobel. But the couple never actually moved in. After deciding to make Texas their permanent home, they donated the unfinished property to Camp Barnabas, a Missouri charity for children with disabilities. When the property hit the market in 2024 for $14.5 million, the owners said they had poured substantial work into the compound, including new plumbing and electrical systems and a beach-entry infinity pool. They had also transformed the massive main house into an event space while living in a separate guest annex. The vast spread, with more than 1,700 feet of frontage on Table Rock Lake, is being sold once again in an unfinished state. The planned 36,000-square-foot home includes exposed wood beams and integrated smart home technology, while a separate five-bedroom, six-bath guest residence spans about 3,600 square feet. An additional structure provides storage for RVs and boats. The auction closes September 24 at 11 a.m. CT. and is being held by Rick Billington of Target Auction Company.
