Concrete home printed in 12 days could set permitting precedent
Sacramento’s first permitted concrete-printed home has been completed in 12 days by Californian companies K4K Construction and RIC Robotics.
They say the project sets a permitting precedent that could support more projects like it.
The 1,200-sq-ft structure is what’s called an “accessory dwelling unit” built for the parents-in-law of K4K Construction founder, David Gonzales.
“Building this home for our own family gave us complete confidence in the technology,” he said, adding that “autonomous construction is a practical solution that can help shape the future of homebuilding”.
K4K Construction used RIC Robotics’ autonomous construction technology and worked with the City of Sacramento to create a code-compliant pathway for future concrete-printed residential construction that meets seismic and governmental regulations.
The project will now progress to roof installation then mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, interior finishes and inspections.
Ziyou Xu, RIC Robtotic’s founder, said: “This project demonstrates that autonomous construction has moved beyond experimentation into real-world residential development.
“By successfully delivering a permitted residential project, we’re demonstrating how robotics can help builders meet growing housing demand more efficiently while maintaining the quality and standards homeowners expect.”
