Hard to explain between friends. Zelensky names the US decisions that he does not understand
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that the decisions made by the United States regarding the war in Ukraine, including delays in arms deliveries and restrictions on the exchange of secret information, are "hard to explain" among friends.
"Because it all comes down to Putin's refusal to end this war and the decisions made by the American side, which are hard to explain between friends," Zelensky stated during a meeting with a delegation from the US Congress, according to Reuters.
Zelensky affirmed that Ukraine has not received full explanations regarding the limitations imposed on the use of the Starshield system, necessary to launch some drone attacks and defend against Russian strikes, especially against high-speed drones.
In a statement published in a video recording on Telegram, the leader from Kyiv said that three times in the last week, Ukraine has not received prior warning about an attack, as usually happens from its partners.
"We also know that, unfortunately, the Pentagon is delaying the delivery of missiles for which our partner has already paid through the PURL program," Zelensky affirmed.
He specified that, as far as he knows, a batch of missiles is awaiting the signature of the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
"All this suggests that a political decision has been made to slow down the support given to us," the Ukrainian president added.
Zelensky further affirmed that Ukraine is ready to suspend attacks on Russian oil refineries, as requested by US President Donald Trump, for a period of 30 days, if Washington provides Ukraine with interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
He also said that he hopes a Ukrainian delegation will meet in the coming days in Norway with the US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Limited connection to Starshield "in several sectors of the front," Zelensky announces
The connectivity of the Starlink/Starshield satellite network of SpaceX remains limited "in several sectors of the front" in Ukraine, which complicates the efforts to intercept Russian drones, and the Ukrainian president expressed regret on Monday, according to AFP.
"Unfortunately, we have found that the equipment no longer works at speeds of 130 to 161 km/h in several sectors of the front," Zelensky stated, adding that "this slows down our logistics on the front and limits the use of several types of drones," including those capable of intercepting Russian drones with reaction, which can reach speeds of up to 600 km/h.
"This problem must be raised again today with our partners at all levels: speed is essential when it comes to protecting lives," Zelensky emphasized in a Facebook post.
Last week, Kyiv accused Washington of deliberately limiting the speeds at which Elon Musk's satellite network can be used effectively, after US President Donald Trump criticized the Ukrainian attacks against Russian refineries.
Ukraine uses the SpaceX system for communications on the battlefield, medium-range strikes against Russian-occupied territories, and interceptor drones. It also uses the civil Starlink system, but not for military operations.
Ukrainian sources mentioned the restrictions on Wednesday. These restrictions mean that the signal between a satellite and an antenna would be interrupted when the latter exceeded approximately 160 km/h, complicating the missions of interceptor drones and some medium-range strikes, notes Agerpres.
Elon Musk stated on Wednesday that any slowing down of Starshield in Ukraine is the responsibility of the US administration, not SpaceX.
Trump, for his part, stated that he did not order the reduction of Elon Musk's satellite network's military version.
The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, also stated on Monday that there has been "no pause" in the exchange of information with Kyiv, urging Volodimir Zelensky to focus on how to "end the war."
Although Rubio stated that he cannot comment on the latest attacks, he rejected Zelensky's claim that, last week, the provision of essential early warning data about Russian missile launches was suspended.
"I don't know where this information comes from or why such statements are being made in front of the press," Rubio said. "What should concern us β and what we want to be a priority β is to end the war," the US Secretary of State further stated.
