Ron Teachman

Bio Ron Teachman joined NPI as a Senior Law Enforcement Advisor in August 2026. He is a veteran law enforcement executive, attorney, educator, and public safety leader with nearly five decades of experience spanning municipal policing, international police reform, criminal justice training, and public safety technology. Ron began his law enforcement career in 1977 with the New Bedford, Massachusetts Police Department and was appointed Chief of Police in 2006, overseeing public safety operations in one of New England’s most diverse and economically significant communities. Following his service in New Bedford, Ron joined The Emergence Group, an organization specializing in criminal justice reform in post-conflict and developing nations. He led a U.S.-funded community policing initiative in Tajikistan that supported national police reform efforts, strengthened community-police partnerships, and helped develop crime prevention and problem-solving strategies at both the national and local levels. In 2013, Ron was appointed Chief of Police for South Bend, Indiana, where he continued to champion community engagement, violence reduction strategies, organizational accountability, and collaborative partnerships among law enforcement, government agencies, social service organizations, and community stakeholders. After his service in South Bend, Ron joined the private sector, helping law enforcement agencies and communities implement innovative technologies designed to reduce gun violence and improve public safety outcomes. In 2023, Ron returned to public service as the inaugural civilian Director of the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy in Virginia, where he led training and professional development programs for law enforcement and public safety personnel. Ron is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Program, and the Senior Management Institute for Police. He holds undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Political Science, earned his Juris Doctor from New England Law | Boston, and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1994.
