WSP secures Wiltshire Council’s £200M highways consultancy contract

Engineering and infrastructure solutions firm WSP has been awarded Wiltshire Council’s term highways consultancy contract following a competitive procurement process. The contract will commence on 1 December 2026 and has an initial duration of six years, with options to extend for up to a maximum of ten years, subject to performance and council approval. According to the award notice, the contract is valued at £200M excluding VAT (£240M including VAT). The appointment will see WSP support the council in the planning, design and delivery of safe, sustainable and efficient highways and transport infrastructure across Wiltshire Centred around a locally based team operating from Trowbridge, “the partnership will bring day-to-day leadership, technical expertise and decision-making closer to the people and places the contract will serve”, said a statement from WSP. “With a sector-leading strategy focused on sustainability and social value, WSP’s approach will support local employment, training and development opportunities, engagement with local businesses and wider benefits for Wiltshire communities. “The appointment will draw on WSP’s local authority highways experience across the South West and wider UK to help deliver practical, place-based outcomes for residents, and businesses,” it added. WSP consultancy manager for the Wiltshire Council contract David Clegg said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Wiltshire Council for this important contract. Our team is passionate about supporting local authorities and communities, and we look forward to bringing our experience, innovation and local commitment to Wiltshire. “By working closely with the council, its partners and local stakeholders, we hope to help deliver better infrastructure, improved services and long-term value for communities across the county, while supporting local skills, employment and supply chain opportunities.” During the contract period, WSP will also provide professional consultancy support to help Wiltshire Council plan, manage and improve its highways, transport and wider place-based services, supporting safer, more resilient and better-connected communities across the county. Wiltshire Council is the unitary authority for Wiltshire, providing a wide range of local services to more than 500,000 residents. Wiltshire Council interim director of assets, highways and transport David Bullock said: “This appointment marks an important step in ensuring we have the expertise and capability needed to support the delivery of Wiltshire’s highways and transport priorities over the coming years. “By working collaboratively, we can build on our commitment to maintaining and improving the county’s highways network, supporting economic growth, enhancing connectivity and delivering value for Wiltshire residents.
