Israel will create a space brigade to "watch, defend, and attack from space"

Israel will create a space brigade to "watch, defend, and attack" October 20, 2026 The Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, congratulated the Israel Army this Tuesday (10/20/2026) for the decision to create a space brigade, as part of a policy that seeks to turn the country into a power in the sector: "The Blue and White Galaxy War," he celebrated in a statement shared by his office, disseminated on X. "Watching, defending, and attacking from space" The creation of the brigade seeks to give Israel the capacity to "watch, defend, and attack from space against any target in immense spaces," in order to consolidate the country's position as a regional and world power. "The objective set for the Army and the Defense system is to turn Israel into one of the world's leading countries in the field of space defense," stated Katz. "It will deter nearby and distant enemies," the Defense Minister continued in the statement. "A nation of technology and space" Katz also maintained that expanding Israel's military capacity beyond the Earth's atmosphere will boost the national economy in terms of development, entrepreneurship, or production: "It will turn Israel, also in the civil sphere, into a nation of technology and space." The creation of the unit is planned for the coming months, according to the Israeli newspaper Ynet, and it will be responsible for supervising the development of space technologies that include orbital surveillance systems and other capabilities for future space warfare operations. The newspaper reports that the decision was made on Monday, following a meeting to establish military appointments led by the Chief of Staff of Israel, Eyal Zamir.
