Cuba resists the energy blockade with solidarity and solar energy: a talk in Zaragoza
More than six decades of economic, commercial, and financial blockade by the United States against Cuba, aggravated by the energy blockade imposed by the Trump administration, continue to punish the island's population. Faced with this policy of suffocation, international solidarity drives alternatives to guarantee basic services. One of them comes from Aragon: the installation of solar energy systems in Cuban health and social-health centers.
This Thursday, October 15th, at 6:00 PM, the JoaquÃn Roncal Center in Zaragoza (Calle San Braulio, 5) will host the talk "Cuba survives under the blockade. Solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuels," organized by the Internationalist Solidarity Committee of Zaragoza and the Camilo Cienfuegos Cuba-Aragon Association.
The main speaker will be Mabelin BenÃtez Fonseca, a specialist from the National Program of the Center for Solar Energy Research (CIES), which is dependent on the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment of Cuba.
Seventeen solar installations thanks to Aragonese solidarity
During the meeting, BenÃtez Fonseca will explain the project to install 17 photovoltaic systems in health and social-health centers in the Sierra Maestra, acquired through funds raised by a solidarity campaign promoted in Aragon by the Camilo Cienfuegos Cuba-Aragon Association and the Internationalist Solidarity Committee, with the support of the Diputación of Zaragoza.
These systems will allow to reinforce the continuity of essential services and reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, especially in a context of severe energy restrictions.
The talk will also address the consequences of the US blockade, repeatedly condemned by the United Nations General Assembly, and the tightening of energy sanctions during 2026.
Faced with an imperialist policy that seeks to economically strangle Cuba, the Aragonese initiative demonstrates that international solidarity is also built with concrete responses: energy for health centers and resources so that their services can continue to function.
