Overview
Some purists might have strong negative feelings about a Porsche electric compact SUV, but the Macan Electric has the moves and versatility to change the minds of even the most petrol-pilled loyalists if only they'd take the time to drive it. Behind the wheel, it exhibits the lithe driving dynamics expected from the hallowed brand, and all but the least powerful of its five available electric powertrains is potent enough to get your heart thumping.
The base model features a single, rear-mounted electric motor, while the rest of the lineup comes with a motor on each axle and all-wheel drive. An air suspension is standard, and most models can be had with adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering. Beyond being the most satisfying model to drive in its compact EV SUV segment, it's also reasonably practical, with a roomy trunk.
Expert Tip: If you’re determined to own a Porsche EV but aren’t a fan of the Macan's shape, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo brings some sport-wagon swagger while keeping things practical.
What's New for 2027?
Porsche has been slowly fleshing out the Macan EV lineup since it debuted for the 2024 model year, with a top-trim GTS model arriving just last year. With the recent updates to the model line over the past couple of years, we don’t expect anything major to change for 2027.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
- EV Motors: 335-hp single motor, 402-hp dual motor, 509-hp dual motor, 563-hp dual motor, 630-hp dual motor
- Drivetrains: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive
The Macan Electric's base powertrain is a single, rear-mounted electric motor that can produce up to 355 horsepower when its overboost function is activated; otherwise, it puts 335 horsepower out to the rear wheels. The 4, 4S, GTS, and Turbo models feature all-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor on each axle. While the Macan 4 produces a maximum of 402 horsepower, the 4S pumps out 509 hp, the GTS churns out 563 hp, and the Turbo ups the ante to 630 hp, all measured in short stints of overboost when launch control is activated; standard output is 382-, 442-, 509-, and 576-hp, respectively.
The 4 tops out at a claimed 136 mph, the 4S at 149 mph, the GTS at 155 mph, and the Turbo at 161 mph. All models feature air suspension with adaptive dampers, and the 4S and Turbo can be had with a torque vectoring system. The GTS gets specialized performance-enhancing goodies, including an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, Porsche's Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, and custom damper tuning. On our recent test drive of the model, the GTS impressed us with its agility on California's Angeles Crest Highway, scything through tight corners with a deftness that contradicted its roughly 5400-pound curb weight.
Rear-wheel steering is also optional on the Macan Electric. We've had the chance to drive the Macan Electric in nearly all its configurations and came away impressed with its performance, quick steering, and low center of gravity
0–60-MPH Times
- C/D 60-mph Test: 2.9 seconds (Turbo), 3.6 seconds (4S), 4.4 seconds (4), 5.0 seconds (Base)
- Claimed 60-mph Time: 3.6 seconds (GTS)
In Comparison: The Audi SQ6 e-tron required 3.8 seconds to hit 60 mph in C/D testing.
Towing and Payload Capacity
- Max Towing: 5500 pounds
Previously, the Macan Electric had a max tow rating of 4409 pounds, and that only when equipped with the factory towing package. That figure has since jumped to 5500 pounds. As with any electric vehicle, expect the Macan Electric's driving range to be significantly impacted while towing.
In Comparison: The Audi SQ6 e-tron is rated to tow 4400 pounds.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
- C/D Range Test: 260 miles (Dual Motor Macan 4), 240 mpg (Dual Motor Macan 4S)
- EPA EV Range: 288-315 miles
The Macan Electric utilizes a 95.0-kWh battery and supports DC fast-charging at up to 270 kW. In our testing, we got the battery from 10 percent to 90 percent charge in 33 minutes. While the Macan Electric uses an 800-volt architecture to achieve such charging speeds, it also has a novel feature that essentially splits the battery into two 400-volt units when hooked up to a 400-volt charger, allowing charging speeds up to 135 kW. The Macan Electric is also capable of AC charging at up to 11 kW.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
- C/D 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Tests: 91 MPGe (single motor), 85 MPGe (Dual Motor Macan 4)
- EPA City Ratings: 98-108 MPGe
- EPA Highway Ratings: 83-90 MPGe
The EPA estimates the base Porsche Macan Electric's fuel economy at 108 MPGe city and 90 MPGe highway, the Macan 4 at 107 MPGe and 89 MPGe city, the Macan Turbo at 99 MPGe highway and 84 MPGe city, and the 4S at 98 MPGe city and 83 MPGe highway.
On our real-world 75-mph highway fuel economy test, the Macan 4 hit 85 MPGe. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. For more information about the Macan Electric's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
In Comparison: The Audi SQ6 e-tron returned 75 MPGe in our 75-mph highway test.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row: The front passenger compartment is comfortable, with typically supportive seats and a familiar Porsche control layout. Features included integrated ambient lighting, vegan-friendly leather-free seats, and numerous recycled materials, including floor mats crafted from regenerated nylon. Overall, however, the interior lacks panache and doesn't live up to the expectations of luxury set by the Macan Electric's price tag.
Second Row: Technically a five-passenger vehicle, we can't imagine full-size adults sitting three abreast in the second row for more than a few minutes. Even two will find accommodations snug, but children and pets will be fine.
Cargo Capacity: Since the Macan Electric doesn't need to pack an engine under the hood, the crossover pairs its 18-cubic-foot rear cargo space with an additional storage nook in the front with a claimed 3 cubic feet of capacity. With the rear seats folded down, Porsche says the rear cargo area expands to 47 cubic feet.
Infotainment and Connectivity
- Infotainment: 10.9-inch touchscreen (standard), 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen (optional)
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Audio System: 10-speaker Porsche stereo(standard), 14-speaker Bose stereo (optional), 21-speaker Burmester stereo (optional)
The Macan Electric utilizes a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster in addition to the 10.9-inch central touchscreen. The available second 10.9-inch display allows the passenger to view video content while the car is in motion. The head-up display also uses augmented reality to overlay elements like navigation onto the driver's view of the outside world. The infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and features a voice assistant, activated by saying "Hey Porsche.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Macan Electric comes standard with most of the driver-assistance features you'd expect and offers a more sophisticated lane-keep function as an option.
- Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Optional Safety Features: adaptive cruise control
For information about the Macan Electric's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Porsche provides a competitive warranty plan that's comparable to what other luxury EV marques offer. However, coverage of the Macan Electric's electrical components is capped at eight years or 100,000 miles, whereas Tesla offers unlimited mileage for the same amount of time.
- Limited Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain Warranty: eight years or 100,000 miles
- Complimentary Maintenance: none
C/D Test Results and Specs
