FPA Power Of Financial Planning Awardees Named

The Financial Planning Association of Central Ohio and FPA of Los Angeles have been named the winners of the 2026 Power of Financial Planning Award for their members’ pro bono work, the national association announced today. The chapters were honored by the FPA and the Foundation for Financial Planning for their work with women and with California wildfire victims. The award goes to one or more chapters each year that offered pro bono service to underserved populations. The FPA of Central Ohio was honored for its work with the New Directions Career Center, which provided one-on-one pro bono office hours for women surviving domestic violence and homelessness. It also was honored for sponsoring a multi-week financial literacy class that helped women gain financial independence. The FPA said volunteers used office hours to help women with immediate financial concerns such as debt and cash-flow management. The FPA of Los Angeles was recognized for its three Wildfire Recovery Financial Decision-Making Clinics held in Altadena and the Palisades, which were completed in partnership with United Policyholders and the California Community Foundation. The events featured legal aid, mental health counselors, housing counselors, nonprofit partners, and members of the Los Angeles County tax assessor’s office. “To assist with the situation many people faced following the devastating wildfires in early 2025, including severe underinsurance, FPA volunteers created an interactive calculator to model various scenarios. Each fire survivor left the events with a short, written action plan,” FPA said. The FPA Awards Committee recommended the awards, and the FPA Board of Directors approved them. “These chapters exemplify the very best of pro bono financial planning—CFP professionals using their expertise to help people in crisis or [who need to] navigate some of life’s most challenging financial moments,” said Jon Dauphiné, CEO of the Foundation for Financial Planning, in a statement. “We’re proud to join FPA in recognizing FPA of Central Ohio and FPA of Los Angeles for their outstanding commitment to expanding access to financial guidance for those who need it most.” The awards will be presented at a reception at FPA SUMMIT 2026 in Washington, D.C., in November.
