According to a statement from the BBC, the organization has decided to cease broadcasting on BBC Scotland and BBC channels 3 for a saving of 500 million pounds over two years.
The BBC also announced that BBC Radio 4 Extra will be shut down and stated that some of these broadcasts will be moved to BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds platforms or sites like YouTube.
The statement noted that approximately 100 BBC News staff would also be made redundant.
In a note sent to the organization's staff by BBC Chief Executive Matt Brittin, he said, "We must ensure that every pound spent while rebuilding the BBC for a changing world creates more value for the viewer. We all know that this means difficult decisions."
According to news in the British media, closing the radio and channels and making staff redundant would result in a saving of approximately 200 million pounds for the organization.
According to a story in The Guardian, the dismissal of 100 people from BBC News would only provide a contribution of 5.5 million pounds, but it was emphasized that the target in this area is 51 million pounds.
The news in the Daily Mirror indicated that the target of dismissing between 1800 and 2000 people announced in March implied that one in every 10 people in the organization would lose their job.
The news reported that 550 people working at BBC News were notified of redundancy, and 30 people working at BBC Sport had their employment terminated.
The channels and Radio 4 Extra that the BBC decided to close will remain on air until the spring of 2027.
