Delhi metro adds Jhandewalan station to its list of 16 stations closed for the day

Delhi Metro has announced closure of a total of 17 stations from 7: 30 AM today till further instructions. Jhandewalan station has been added to the list of 16 stations that were closed on Thursday, 23 July, amid Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest. It further noted that commuters can access interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a post on X on Thursday stated, “Metro stations will be closed from 07:30 AM tomorrow (24th July, 2026) till further instructions. Jhandewalan Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Friday announced that he ended his indefinite hunger strike on 26th day following government assurance over CJP's demands. A post from his account on X states, “END OF HUNGER... BEGINNING OF ACCOUNTABILITY...! Sonam Wangchuk ends his fast after 26 days upon getting assurance from the government and members of parliament of all political parties that the issue of accountability in the failing examination system will be discussed on the floors of the Indian Parliament.” This statement comes at a time Monsoon Session of the Parliament is ongoing. “The government also gave assurance that families of suicide victims in the recent NEET examination paper leak will be given adequate compensation and that there will be no cases registered against the peacefully protesting students and youths,” the post added. Another post shared in the early hours of Friday revealed that he ended his hunger strike in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda, Dr Jitendra Singh and the senior leaders of Apex Body of Leh Ladakh who met him at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Thursday midnight. Following the crucial meet, Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda read out the government's assurances to Wangchuk CJP's representatives will most likely hold talks with the government at a neutral venue on Friday at around 12:30 pm to press its demands, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. After the government agreed to the youth-led organisation's request for the meeting, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said that the discussion will take place at Constitution Club of India.
