After years of working behind the scenes, Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2027.

After years behind the scenes, Jay-Z will be the star of the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The American rapper and 25-time Grammy winner will move from producing the spectacle to becoming its main act in the next edition. The headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show has already been announced: it is American rapper Jay-Z, according to an announcement by the NFL this Monday. The news was released via a 15-second video starring the musician. The clip includes the phrase “GOAT’s out of the bag,” a play on words that means the secret about the greatest of all time has been revealed. The expression also refers to the acronym GOAT (Greatest of All Time), used to describe someone considered the best in their field. The championship game of the American football league is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium, located near Los Angeles. In Chile, it can be viewed through ESPN and the Disney+ platform. Jay-Z's 30-year career Shawn Carter, known worldwide as Jay-Z, is 56 years old and is one of the most important names in the contemporary music industry. The rapper and producer has accumulated 25 Grammy Awards and a three-decade career that has also made him a billionaire entrepreneur. His recording career began in 1996 with Reasonable Doubt, an album he released independently after no record label wanted to publish it. His recognition grew with works such as Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life, which included the title track and allowed him to reach number one on Billboard. Among his most famous songs are also “99 Problems,” “Holy Grail,” and the track that has become a true anthem for New York City: “Empire State of Mind.” Although his last solo studio album, 4:44, was published in 2017, Jay-Z has remained connected to the industry as a producer and entrepreneur. In 2008, he co-founded Roc Nation, an entertainment company that represents artists such as Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and A$AP Rocky. His selection for the Super Bowl show coincides with the commemoration of his 30-year career. From producer to Super Bowl protagonist The appointment also represents a change in position for Jay-Z within the sporting event. In 2019, Roc Nation signed an agreement with the NFL to produce the halftime show and collaborate on initiatives linked to social justice. The agreement was renewed in 2024 and extends until 2029. Since then, the company has been behind performances headlined by artists such as Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, and Bad Bunny, who was the most recent performer. Additionally, Jay-Z has received six consecutive Emmy nominations as executive producer of the show and has won two of those awards in that category, as well as another for co-directing Rihanna's performance in 2023. “When we reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, he had only one request: that Jay-Z take the stage one day, whenever he felt it was the right time,” stated Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner. Next year's performance also opens the possibility that the rapper will share the stage with other artists. Among the names generating anticipation is that of his wife, Beyoncé, who headlined the halftime show in 2013 and participated as a guest in 2016. For now, the NFL has not announced any other artists for the presentation. The anticipation builds following this year's show by Bad Bunny, which drew 128 million viewers and became the first Super Bowl halftime show performed in Spanish.
