Robotâs Ass Catches On Fire And Other Dispatches From The Humanoid Robot Games
The World Humanoid Robot Games are currently going on in Beijing. The event, which seems like the worldâs largest Battlebots taping, features events like boxing, weightlifting, track races, and real-world scenario simulations like firefighting and hospitality tasks which have the robot competitors demonstrate their prowess at the applications they were ostensibly designed forâyâknow, outside of human subjugation.
There have been many reports that a few of the robots have broken Usain Boltâs 100m dash record, but the far more newsworthy details coming out of these games show how absolutely goofy these robots look doing any of their tasks. Sure, they can run faster than the fastest human, but at least Usain Bolt doesnât burst into flames or need a crash pad after a race.

These robots seem to be made of tin foil and string, and there are so many images of them being carried away on stretchers.
They seem to fall apart from merely standing too long and are oftentimes incapable of performing the task they were programmed for, like this boxing bot who defeats himself, only to have his opponent suddenly break out in Fortnite emotes. It seriously seems like more work was put into making sure the robots can stunt on their opponents than their ability to perform their designated function.
why are robots boxing and doing fortnite emotes???? pic.twitter.com/asLgox9OzQ

Thereâs an impulse to be impressed by what human technology is capable of, kinda like how we all fell in love with those cute Boston Dynamics dogs. But that veneer of âawwwâ didnât last because, as critics predicted, folks began strapping guns to them. We have about two or three years to get our laughs outta these bots before something similar happens. At least Iâll have a new reaction gif for âhow your email finds me.â
