The Vienna Philharmonic Awards Andris Nelsons Honorary Membership By Afton Markay(Photo credit: Marco Borggreve) Andris Nelsons has been given an honorary membership with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2010, Nelsons has been closely associated with the Vienna Philharmonic. He has conducted the Vienna Philharmonic’s Summer Night Concert, New Year’s Concert in 2020, and on tours in the USA, Europe, and Asia. The honorary membership comes after Nelsons’ tenure at Boston Symphony Orchestra was announced to end unexpectedly. Nelsons is the current Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra through summer 2027. The Vienna Philharmonic’s Chairman, Daniel Froschauer commented, “We have enjoyed a deep artistic partnership with Andris Nelsons for many years. He is one of the Philharmonic conductors who have become particularly close to the orchestra in recent years.” Read Related Stories Categories News
