Ukraine claims that a meeting of Putin with Xi and Trump will only serve to continue the war
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andri Sibiga, has claimed that the only meeting capable of unblocking the situation includes President Zelensky.
Ukrainian authorities have warned that a meeting between the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin; the United States, Donald Trump; and China, Xi Jinping, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum summit to be held in China's city of Shenzhen in a month will only serve to "encourage" Moscow to continue the war.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andri Sibiga, has claimed that the only meeting capable of unblocking the situation includes President Volodymyr Zelensky and that "inviting Putin to a meeting of that type would feed his appetite for self-aggrandizement and give him a status that he does not deserve".
"He is not a global leader; he is a war criminal. And Russia is not a global power; it is a global problem," Sibiga reacted to the possibility of this three-way meeting, according to the American press, to discuss the war in Ukraine and even establish a new roadmap for its end.
The Kremlin, for its part, confirmed on Monday that during the last phone call they had with Putin and Trump, the possibility of organizing this meeting was discussed, taking advantage of the fact that both leaders will be in China on November 18 and 19 to participate in this APEC summit.
"Considering that the three heads of state could participate in the summit in China, the possibility of a hypothetical meeting was mentioned. However, no one presented or expressed proposals or agreements regarding the meeting, its possible agenda, or its content," explained the Kremlin spokesperson, Dimitri Peskov, at a press conference.
For Sibiga, there is no argument from a "pragmatic or moral" point of view that supports Putin's place at a table with his counterparts from China and the United States. "The only thing that could win him that seat is a serious step towards peace, such as accepting a ceasefire proposal," he pointed out.
"The Russian economy is at least thirteen times smaller than that of the United States and eight times smaller than that of China, and it continues to contract rapidly, along with the standard of living of the Russians. Russia has lost 1.6 million soldiers between deaths and injuries in a lost war that it cannot win and refuses to end," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister underlined on social media.
In this regard, he highlighted that this has been due to the pressures and sanctions that have been applied. Despite this, Sibiga warned that Putin has intensified attacks against the civilian population. "While he continues this terror, there should be no place for him at any table," he pointed out.
For its part, from Beijing, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, assured that she does not have "information to provide at this time" on this matter.
