Elon Musk promises to give a SpaceX stock to every child in the US next year
Elon Musk promises a SpaceX stock to every child in the US in 2027
October 19, 2026"Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every child in the United States," assured the technology magnate Elon Musk in a message on X this Monday (10/19/2026), and added: "This will be the first of many."
72 million minors under 18 in the United States
Musk did not provide more details about the transfer or the conditions of the supposed gift. According to the latest Census Bureau estimate, there are 72 million minors under 18 in the United States.
After its IPO last June, the world's richest man ended up with 42 to 43% of the company's shares.
Previous announcement relates SpaceX to Trump
SpaceX president, Gwynne Shotwell, already announced last July that she and her husband would donate one of their SpaceX shares to each of more than two million minors through the so-called "Trump accounts" (a US government program designed as children's investment accounts, officially named Invest America).
Unlike Musk's proposal, Shotwell's proposal was specifically for minors between 11 and 17 years old living in areas with lower average family incomes, with special attention to those living near their home in central Texas.
Last Friday, the company's shares closed at $146.03. If they maintained that price at the time of the transfer, it would consolidate a transaction valued at more than $10.5 billion.
This is not the first promise from Elon Musk
This is not the first time Musk has promised gifts. During the presidential election campaign, he announced that he would deliver one million dollars daily to voters registered in any of the most contested states between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris who signed a statement in favor of "freedom of speech and the right to bear arms."
SpaceX is expected to publish its latest quarterly financial results this Tuesday. In its first accounts, presented in August, the aerospace and artificial intelligence (AI) company reported a net loss of $5.488 billion in the first half of 2026, a 257% increase year-over-year.
