Bonhams to Auction the Legacy Cellar of Dr. Remington Norman, One of the World's Leading Authorities on Burgundy and the Rhône Valley

This exceptional collection comprises wines from the personal cellar of Dr. Remington Norman, one of the most respected authorities on the wines of Burgundy and the Rhône Valley. Built over a lifetime devoted to the study, appreciation and collection of fine wine, the cellar offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire bottles of outstanding provenance from a figure whose influence on the wine world spans more than four decades. Educated at Harrow and Oxford University, where he later taught, Dr. Norman first established his reputation as a London wine merchant specialising in old and rare wines. He was the driving force behind the pioneering La Réserve wine shops, which inspired a generation of merchants and served as a training ground for many of today's leading wine trade professionals. His deep engagement with the great vineyards of France led to a distinguished career as an author, lecturer and critic. His acclaimed book The Great Domaines of Burgundy, first published in 1992, remains a seminal work on the leading producers of the Côte d'Or, while Rhone Renaissance received an unprecedented sweep of Britain's major wine literary awards. Alongside titles including Grand Cru, these publications established Dr. Norman as one of the foremost interpreters of Burgundy and Rhône wines for an international audience. His books feature forewords by some of the most respected names in wine, including Hugh Johnson, Michael Broadbent MW and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. In 1984, Dr. Norman became a Master of Wine and subsequently joined the prestigious Académie Internationale du Vin where he has lectured, conducted tastings and addressed symposiums across Europe, North America, Australasia and South Africa. The wines offered in this auction reflect Dr. Norman's exacting standards and extraordinary depth of knowledge. As one would expect from a cellar assembled by a scholar, merchant and taster of such experience, provenance, maturity and authenticity have always been paramount. The collection focuses particularly on Burgundy and the Rhône, regions with which Dr. Norman's name has long been associated and provides a fascinating insight into the tastes and passions of one of the wine world's most influential figures. The wines have been stored since purchase in an eighteenth-century cellar in the English countryside and were recently transferred by Bonhams specialists to LCB Dinton, where they are held duty paid and ready for delivery to successful buyers.
