Indonesia, China hold strategic and 2+2 talks in Jakarta
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Jakarta on Thursday evening (August 20), according to a statement received here.
Sugiono and Wang will co-chair the first Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue between Indonesia and China. The dialogue is a new bilateral ministerial mechanism established when Sugiono visited Beijing in April 2025.
It aims to assess cooperation achievements and establish strategic priorities for future bilateral relations.

After the dialogue, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry will host the second 2+2 meeting between the countries’ foreign and defense ministers. The 2+2 meeting will focus on strengthening political, defense, and security cooperation at bilateral, regional, and global levels.
The two meetings are part of efforts by Indonesia and China to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry said the strategic dialogue will focus on economic partnership.
"The CSD discussions will focus primarily on economic partnership," East Asia Director Arifianto Sofiyanto said in Jakarta.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian said in Beijing that the inaugural strategic dialogue would focus on development and modernisation.
The two sides will focus on better aligning development strategies, exploring practical ways to deepen the China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and advancing modernization, Lin said.
