Hong Kong to assess typhoon warning as Tropical Storm Narra nears Guangdong coast Narra expected to strengthen before moving towards western coast of Guangdong, bringing windier weather and heavy showers to Hong Kong Hong Kong’s weather forecaster will assess next week whether to issue a typhoon warning as Tropical Storm Narra is expected to edge closer to the western coast of Guangdong province in mainland China. “The Observatory will closely monitor its movement and the change in local wind conditions, and assess the need for issuing tropical cyclone warning signals early next week,” it said. Narra – named after a species of tree in the Philippines – is projected to edge closer to the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula and the coast of western Guangdong. The forecaster said the week ahead would be cloudy and rainy, with coastal areas becoming windier and experiencing occasional heavy showers and squally thunderstorms from early to midweek. Sunny intervals are not expected to return until Friday. As of 8am on Saturday, Narra was about 650km (403 miles) west of Hong Kong, packing maximum sustained winds of 65km/h (40mph) near its centre.
