Founder Kurt Mattson Brings Yari Capital And $405 Million To Carson Group
Earlier this week, Carson Group added Kurt Mattson and his Atlanta advisory practice to its independent advisor channel, picking up roughly $405 million in client assets as the veteran planner exits a 30-year career at Northwestern Mutual, the firm announced today.
Mattson founded his practice, now known as Yari Capital, in 1995 and built it around a planning-first philosophy that puts client goals ahead of any single product or strategy, according to the firm’s website. Yari, named for Mattson’s daughter, works with executives, physicians, attorneys, business owners and other high earners, guiding them through cash flow planning, tax strategy, retirement, investment management and estate planning.
“Our firm was named after our founder’s daughter because we believe relationships with loved ones are some of the most important things in life,” the website noted. “The name Yari also represents wisdom and growth, two things which are essential to our practice.”
Mattson is joined at Yari by Olivia Payne, who holds the CFP designation and leads the firm's financial planning efforts as director, along with a three-person support staff.
In the release, Mattson said he began looking seriously at Carson after talking with advisors who had already made the switch and described a culture built around collaboration rather than corporate mandates. As Yari grows, he wanted a partner that could widen the firm's capabilities without asking him to give up the independence he'd spent three decades building.
“I’ve always believed that my responsibility is to help clients make decisions based solely on what’s in their best interest,” Mattson said. “I wanted an independent partner that would allow us to stay true to that philosophy while giving us access to best-in-class technology, advanced planning expertise and a community of advisors committed to putting clients first.”
Carson now oversees more than $62 billion in assets across a network of 165-plus partner offices, including more than 50 Carson Wealth locations, and serves upward of 60,000 client families, according to the firm.
