Shay Mitchell’s luggage empire BĂ©is has been on a hot streak lately when it comes to collaborations with zeitgeisty brands across industries. Now, BĂ©is is embarking on what just might be its most nostalgia-driven partnership to date: a 28-piece capsule created with Disney, marked by vintage character art, kid-approved colorways, fun-loving patterns, and more nods to the happiest place (and storylines) on earth. Teasing the announcement, BĂ©is took to Instagram: posting a photo of seatback screens overtaken by an unmistakably Disney-coded print, with the mysterious caption of “Something worth wishing for is on the way.” Available for purchase online starting August 12 — at beistravel.com, the Bloomingdale’s website, and disneystore.com — the much-anticipated and wished-for collection’s magnum opus is a range of bright-red roller suitcases (the Small and Large Carry-Ons, to be exact) embossed with Mickey Mouse’s smiling visage. The practical luggage solutions are taken to more darling heights via detailing on the wheels and themed laundry bags, for keeping your Donald Ducks in a row as you move from point A to point B. BĂ©is’ viral Tote Bag, Duffle, and Backpack also join the party, this time dressed in blue and red denim with Mickey patches affixed to the front. And because you’re not the only one who gets to have all the fun, Disney x BĂ©is are rolling out miniaturized versions of the latter two pieces — set to become the most vibrant and personality-laden products of the bunch, what with their doodles depicting instantly recognizable Disney motifs. No longer does your mini-me have to leave all their pals behind when jetsetting, or roadtripping, somewhere new. Additionally, BĂ©is blesses kids and kids at heart with what it calls “park-friendly styles”: The Disney Compactible Backpack and The Disney Packable Charm Bag, which promise to level up your Disneyland outfits du jour with easy packability and newfound whimsy alike. All Disney adults-slash-beauty gurus will also be happy to know that the collaborators are turning BĂ©is’ signature Cosmetic Pouch into something denim-swathed and Mickey-bedecked, just like its tote and duffle counterparts. It all started with a mouse, after all, and the travel gear destination in question won’t let you forget that. Not only is this “BĂ©is’ biggest push yet into family travel,” according to an official statement, but the upcoming release is also the first to be “built around a character IP.” In that, it’s bound to find even wider adoration and sales wins to follow. Indeed, not everyone has tried the prebiotic soda alternative that is Poppi, but there’s barely anyone alive who can’t identify Mickey’s anthropomorphic, bow-wearing sweetheart. “Travel and nostalgia are already tangled up with each other. You remember trips by how they felt, not just where you went. Disney taps into that same feeling, so this collaboration felt inevitable,” Liz Money, senior vice president of brand and creative at BĂ©is, told WWD. “The goal wasn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. We leaned into ’90s references throughout, including the materials and the silhouettes. But it’s also fresh, it’s a little unexpected, and it means the pieces read as genuinely cool rather than like merch. It’s a hint of magic, not a shout. That balance is what makes it feel like BĂ©is.” Look closer and you’ll also discover details that feel like a wink shared only between you and the creators of this collection, such as some bags’ glove-shaped zipper pulls and delightful sayings sprinkled over the laundry bags. This playfulness does not mean Disney x BĂ©is isn’t equally rooted in functionality — a bedrock of Mitchell’s label. The luggage cover offerings secure durability from Uber ride to baggage claim, while the kids’ Organizer encourages building smart travel habits early. So too can the selections be seamlessly transitioned across contexts and settings, airport and Lightning Lane line included: never appearing overly referential thanks to a subtle and tasteful design approach. That being said, Disney and BĂ©is are also here to remind you that there is no “functionality” without a bit of “fun,” so mark your calendars for the 12th, put on those Mickey ears, and shop even more BĂ©is favorites while you wait. As Minnie would say, my goodness, how wonderful.
