‘That’s Why I’m Not Scared of Death’: NBA Player Michael Porter Jr. Spent a Livestream Telling N3on Jesus Is the Only Way

Michael Porter Jr. didn’t go on N3on’s stream to talk about God. Then the streamer brought up AI, and the conversation went somewhere else entirely. Porter, who led the Brooklyn Nets in scoring last season at a career-high 24.2 points a game, sat in on Mikyle Rafiq’s Kick livestream for the better part of Tuesday. Rafiq, who streams as N3on and has more than a million followers on both YouTube and Instagram, said he was worried about where AI is headed. Porter’s answer skipped the technology. “The world’s just, it’s evil, bro,” he said. “That’s why just make sure you’re right with God, man. Not just any God. Make sure you’re right with Jesus Christ.” Rafiq said he’s Muslim, respects every religion and tells his viewers to pray to one God. Porter asked what happens if they’re praying to the wrong one. “But everyone worships the same God, no?” Rafiq said. “No,” Porter said. He kept going. “Some people think that the best thing about this life is partying. Some people think the best part about this life is going on a walk with friends. Whatever you think that the point of this life is, there’s gotta be something better than this.” Then he turned it around. “Are you scared of death?” “I’m so scared of death,” Rafiq said. “That’s my number one fear.” Porter told him about a Muslim Uber driver he once asked how he knew he was going to heaven. “He was like, ‘None of us do. We just try to live our best and be a good person, and then we’re all scared, and then we die, and we cross our fingers.'” “Christianity’s the only religion where it’s like none of us can be good enough to go to heaven, ’cause we’ve all sinned. We’ve all done bad things, and someone else came and died for us and forgave us of our sins. That’s why I’m so secure in the fact that I’m going to heaven, and that’s why I’m not scared of death.” “Someone else did it for me. Jesus died on the cross for us, dog.” A few minutes later he invited Rafiq to come to church with him. Porter has never been quiet about this. He grew up in a devout family in Missouri, won a title with the Nuggets in 2023 and was traded to Brooklyn last summer, where he became the Nets’ best player. The stream ran almost six hours.
