Two dead in road crashes in Meath and Limerick

In Athboy, Co Meath, a man died in after his car struck a premises on Connaught Street at about 2am. The driver, aged in his 50s, and who was the sole occupant of the car, died in the crash. The man’s body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. Separately, a man died while another man remains in critical condition after a car struck a tree in Co Limerick. The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, died in the road collision which happened on the N21 at Cummeen in Adare at around 2.40am on Sunday. The man’s body was removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place. Two passengers, a man aged in his 20s and an adult male teenager, were taken to University Hospital Limerick. The man remains in a critical condition while the teenager received non-life threatening injuries. The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collisions or who were in the area at the time to come forward. Road users who were travelling on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, Limerick in the early hours of Sunday between 2.15am and 2.45am and who may have camera footage, including dashcam, are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
