Lindsey Graham’s Sister to Fill Out the Remainder of His Senate Term

Darline Graham perfectly meets the requirements of the job. Hear me out. The Cynics Chime In A Question of Qualifications Well there is an election. So, this is temporary until the midterms when Lindsey’s seat is up for election this year. Crazy or Not? Regarding qualifications, I propose she is perfect. And as noted, voters will have a say at the midterms. Five Job Requirements - Be 30 years old by the time the person is sworn in. - Support whatever Trump wants with no questions asked on constitutionally. - Support whatever Trump wants with no questions asked on legality. - Support whatever Trump wants with no questions asked about Senate rules. - Regarding constitutionally, legality, and Senate rules, the less a person knows the better. Is there any doubt on any of the above? If not, how can anyone possibly suggest Darline Graham is not a perfect replacement? Please don’t tell me what the requirements should be. I am telling you what they are in practice. Darline is perfect. Related Posts July 11, 2026: Can Vance Overrule the Parliamentarian to Force SAVE Act Passage? Vance can overrule the Parliamentarian. July 12, 2026: Why I Expect Democrats to Win the Senate in the Midterms Elections It’s the economy stupid, plus betting markets, Republican infighting, and momentum. If South Carolina can’t smell the roses now, I’ll have lost all faith in the state. She isn’t running for the seat and this is not unprecedented. I was just a wee mite when Muriel Humphrey completed 11 months for her husband. Wow, took me 2 seconds to come up with a Democrat situation that was similar. Someone who had similar (ZERO) political experience. The blog is becoming unhinged. Every last thing is turned into spectacle even when it happens in practice I was looking at Tina Smith’s appointment to serve out Al Franken–she voted against her party 1% of the time. Why must everything now be immediate and crazy. This Graham appointment will last 6 months in reality, 4 months until the election, and she’ll serve while her party nominates a candidate who will surely be involved. I mean this is the process. Now, were it me I would have opted to read the room and determine who I thought might be that nominee and place that person, however then that person running for office would be tied up in the Senate functions instead of campaigning. Had Graham lived his incumbency would allow doing both functions more easily as he would not need to be on the stump nearly as much. In fact here was what happend when Feinstein died, a more recent example, per Wikipedia: “On October 1, 2023, Newsom chose Butler to fill the Senate seat left vacant by Feinstein’s death, fulfilling his pledge to appoint a black woman. Butler was selected despite not being a resident of California, as she had moved to Maryland in 2021. The United States Constitution requires only that senators be “inhabitants” of the state they represent. Newsom’s office said that Butler would re-register to vote in California before taking office as a senator. Shortly before nominating Butler, Newsom announced that his nominee would be free to run in 2024 if that person so chose, a departure from his previous position. After being sworn in, Butler announced she would not seek election to a full Senate term or run in the November 2024 special election for the final two months of Feinstein’s term. Adam Schiff won both elections. When she was sworn in on October 3, 2023, Butler became the first openly lesbian Black woman in Congress, the first openly LGBT member of the U.S. Senate from California, and its first openly LGBT Black member.” So a more recent example, named 2 days after the death of the sitting Senator, one named due to her race, gender and sexual preference. Don’t recall the blog commenting then. I guess when one has had it then every issue becomes about that-who-shall-not-be-named. But there’s a name for that isn’t there. There’s a zillion things going on, I don’t think the process by which the interim Senator of South Carolina is at the top of the list. In fact voting with Trump from now until the new Congress is what Lindsay would have done anyway, especially given it’s been bombs away the last few days. If Trump’s pick to suceed Lyndsey Graham is one of the current South Carolina US House representatives, then that would have posed a problem because if a South Carolina representative had been appointed to the Senate seat now, they would have had to resign their House seat. And the House seat would then not have been filled but would have remained empty until the next election. So the Republicans would have lost one vote in the House, which they can’t afford to do. Trump probably has delusions of still getting some Republican legislation passed in the remainder of the term. I don’t know if this is the scenario, but at least it could provide a rationale: Don’t lose anyone from the House and fill the Senate seat with someone who will just show up and vote yes when needed. You missed the 2nd-most important criteria: she won’t jump into the race for a full term, interfering with the party elites that have been waiting their turn (The most important is that she’ll vote how Trump tells her to) More proof that each senator is just the apex of a plutocratic financial scheme that must be maintained at all costs to further the interests of the corrupt elite at the expense of the citizens Every day we get more hard evidence that the USA is now a bought and paid for banana republic All the fools wrapped in the flag chanting “USA is exceptional “ will get the lower standard of living they deserve Sad that this sort of thing is normal now MAGA boomer filth appoints MAGA boomer filth? I’m shocked! I thought this whole DEI thing was over? Apparently not. Do worry, Trump, Walrus and the GOP will find a way to make things even worse.™ So. Does she then get a pension for life? What about any ‘due’ insider trading? we are now a county with a government-sanctioned right-wing paramilitary force that occasionally functions as a death squad take that in for a minute who’s a shithole country now? Now? We’ve been one since September 2001. Of all the controversies erupting these days THIS one troubles me less than many. It’s a temp posting. Maybe Sister Lindsay will travel to Israel and Ukraine only every other month instead of every month. /sarc It will be easy to replicate her brother’s agenda: just support everything evil; maximum death. This is banana republic territory. But then, the commander in chief should be called caudillo. Cronyism at its’ core. Replace one warmonger with another. I detested two-faced neocon Graham, but having his sister fill in for a few months isn’t a big issue. It would be different for a longer period of time. It’s funny, for decades I opened the government bit of Business Law by giving students simple instructions to be a legislator, based on a fairly short list of fundamental rights. I told students the basic job of government was to protect them, as much as possible, while encountering new things like drones, new types of medications, etc. Ah, the good old days. I know, cynics will say it was never true in modern times. Yes, but we could start with the ideal, and move on to the real. It was a valid starting point. Was. It is easier to be a member of Congress than ever before. Have the backbone of a tapeworm. Done. Sit back and watch things erode. This decision was probably (unfortunately) made within nanoseconds of hearing of Sen. Graham’s unforeseen passing. No doubt, even taco could come up with this one. After all, politics rule. Well if that means she gets to run in November i would hope it makes it easier for the dem. Seriously, what requirements to be a congressperson? You get wined & dined by lobbyists and then vote either ‘yea’ or ‘nay’ on proposed legislation. It’s so easy, even a caveman can do it. Repeal the 17th amendment. Have senators appointed by the state legislatures again. I don’t think you want that I’m not sure. I was involved in politics for a long time. It’s all controlled by corrupt forces (Not just AIPAC). The U.S. Senate is perhaps the worst. I don’t trust the electorate any more and haven’t for a long time. The State legislatures may not be any better. To be honest, I’m just not sure on this issue. I do believe that if the American sheeple ever decide to pull their heads out of their arses, I believe it may be more likely that they can do so and elect good representatives more at the local level than at a national level. I don’t know. I have had personal relationships and friendships with a few Texas State reps and a couple of State Senators in Texas in the past. These were good people and good representatives, but they were a small minority of the overall legislature. Citizens United and this more recent Supreme Court decision may have been the final nail in the coffin for our Republic. Time will tell. I would like to hear more of your reasoning for your statement. Tell them you want the periwimnkle blue on the golf cart upholstery. You want the really good eclairs to feed the arteriosclerosis. the USA was overthrown in 1913…sadly, it is only now that people realize it. “bubble wand”, indeed !! ouch!
