More will monitor the cabins after unresolved fires:
Sunday afternoon was Lars André Bigton's single trip to the family cabin on Emblemsfjellet. A newly purchased wildlife camera was in the bag. The plan is to buy more.
– The events of the last few days with fires on the mountain make us worried, he says and adds:
– That cabins that have stood here for 100, 200, 300 years do not get to stay at peace, is just terrible.
The fires occur just kilometers from Sulafjellet, where there have been six unsolved cabin fires in recent years.
Now, more people fear that the wave of fires has spread to the neighboring mountain.
– What is happening is terrible. It is tragic, says Bigton.
Bigton says he has spoken to several others in the last few days who are doing the same. The hope is that surveillance cameras will scare away any unwanted guest.
Getting things from the cabin
The Bigton family's cabin is well known among hikers in the area and is nearly 100 years old.
Sunday afternoon, the family got cabin books and other things they want to secure for the future, fearing that it might burn down.
– We are worried about our cabin. We are afraid that it might be set on here too. If someone has set fire to the other two, then this person can continue, says Helene Bigton.
Cabin owner Trond-Petter Kaasbøll is also uneasy about what has happened and is considering installing surveillance cameras, like the Bigton family.
He says he is not afraid, but believes it is important to find the possible perpetrator before more cabins catch fire.
Still no suspects
The police say they currently have no suspects in the case and still want tips from the public.
Operation leader Jan Arild Austnes at the Møre og Romsdal police district says they are working broadly.
– We are continuing to work and are focusing on these fires to find out who did it and what has happened.
He does not want to comment on the information that several cabin owners have installed cameras.
– It is very scary.
The police have also never found out who was behind the fires on the neighboring mountain in Sula.
The fires on Sulafjellet
Olav Hoff experienced losing a cabin and an annex in the fires there. Now cabins on the neighboring mountain are burning.
Hoff fears that it could be the same perpetrator behind the new fires.
– It is very scary. One cannot be sure. But I think it cannot be so many madmen driving this.
Hoff says that the cabin fires on Sulafjellet have made many people feel unsafe.
He even checks the camera that he installed on the new cabin every morning. He knows if the cabin is still standing.
– The cabin should be a place where you could go and relax and not think about so much else than what is nice. But this has created a feeling of insecurity and fear.
Hoping it ends
Now the cabin owners on both Sulafjellet and Emblemsfjellet hope that the police can solve the mystery and that the unsolved fires will end.
– The best thing that can happen is that the person who might have set the fire is caught, so that it stops, says Solgunn Osnes.
