No. 7 Field Hockey Travels to Dartmouth, Hosts Northeastern This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the first time this season, No. 7 Harvard field hockey is on the road, as the Crimson open Ivy League play at Dartmouth and then host crosstown foe Northeastern this weekend. The Crimson and Big Green open conference action at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 in Hanover, New Hampshire, as Harvard will welcome Northeastern for a 1:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 20. Both contests will air live on ESPN+ as admission to Berylson Field is free of charge. CRIMSON UPDATES - Harvard went 3-1 in its four-match homestand to open the 2026 season, as the Crimson starts a season at 3-1 or better for a third consecutive season. - After dropping a 3-1 decision against No. 12 UMass for its first loss of the year, Harvard bounced back with a 2-1 victory against Boston College. - Senior forward Sage Piekarski and junior midfielder Martha le Huray both scored goals in the first half against Boston College, as the Crimson outshot the Eagles, 22-9, over 60 minutes of action in Cambridge. - With that win against Boston College, Harvard is 7-3 against Atlantic Coast Conference foes since the 2021 season. - A native of Teddington, England and an All-America selection last season, le Huray tallied two assists and a goal in the matches against UMass and Boston College, as she leads Harvard with three assists this season. - One of the Crimson's team captains this season, senior midfielder Lara Beekhuis is leading the line for the Crimson attack, as the Laren, Netherlands native has scored in three-straight contests. - The 2023 Ivy League Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Beekhuis leads Harvard in goals (3) and points (7) this season. - Beekhuis and junior midfielder Tilly Butterworth are Harvard's team captains this season. During the 2025 season, Beekhuis and Butterworth combined for 16 goals, seven assists and 39 points, as they both scored goals in the first four games of the 2026 season. - Head Coach/The Ragatz Family Harvard Coach of Excellence Tjerk van Herwaarden is in his 14th season at the helm of the Harvard field hockey program. A four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year, van Herwaarden is 169-70 in his Crimson career. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION - Led by first-year head coach Jason Klinkradt, Dartmouth is 1-2 this season, as the Big Green took down Merrimack, 4-2, for its first win of the year before dropping a 1-2 decision against Sacred Heart to conclude the weekend. - Junior forward Amelie Luessmann leads Dartmouth in both goals scored (2) and points (4) this season, as the Big Green ranks fourth in goals scored (10) and sixth in goals against average (2.75). - Northeastern is 1-4 to open the 2026 season, as the Huskies shutout UC Davis, 1-0, for its first win of the year before falling 4-1 against Stanford. - Six different Huskies have recorded a goal this season, as Junior defender Camille Armaganian leads the team in goals (3) and points (6). SERIES HISTORY - Harvard leads the all-time series against Dartmouth, 24-23-4. The two sides first met during the 1974 season, as the Crimson owns an 11-game winning streak against the Big Green. - Last season's meeting saw Harvard race past Dartmouth, 7-0, at Berylson Field. After a scoreless first quarter, Harvard rattled off four goals in the second quarter alone, as Butterworth scored a career-best two goals as Harvard tallied 30 shots and only allowed one Dartmouth attempt. - A series that also dates back to the 1974 season, Northeastern leads the all-time series against Harvard, 21-28. Harvard brings a five-game winning streak into Sunday's meeting, as the Crimson is outscoring the Huskies, 20-4, during that time frame. - Beekhuis netted the opening goal in the second quarter, as Bronte-May Brough '26 doubled the Crimson advantage in the third quarter as Harvard only allowed five shots. ON THE ATTACK - Once again, Harvard boasts one of the most dynamic and experienced attacks in the nation. - Piekarski, le Huray and Beekhuis all recorded career-bests in both goals and points last season, as all three have already scored this season. - Beekhuis leads the Crimson in goals scored (3) and points (7), as Piekarski and le Huray are tied for second on the team in points with five each. - A native of Concord, Massachusetts, Piekarski became just the sixth student-athlete in school history to reach 80 career points with her goal in the first quarter against Boston College. - Harvard returned 53 goals scored from the 2025 season, a tally that led the Ivy League. IMMEDIATE IMPACT - Once again, first-years are generating a tremendous impact on the pitch for the Crimson. - A starter at forward in the first four matches of the 2026 season, first-year Evie Smith is showcasing her attacking talent, as the Sutton Valence, England native scored her first career goal in the 5-1 win against UMass Lowell. - First-year defender Elin van Sante is anchoring a Crimson defensive unit that is only allowing 8.5 shots per game. POLL POSITION - Harvard is No. 7 in the latest iteration of the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Coaches Poll. - The Crimson has now spent 15 straight weeks in the top 10 of the Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll, the longest streak in school history. - Harvard is 1-1 against ranked opposition this season, as Harvard awaits five teams ranked in the top 20 later this season, No. 3 Princeton, No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 17 Yale and No. 19 Monmouth. TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS - Dating back to the 2016 season, Harvard is maintaining a 97-game winning streak against unranked foes. - The last loss against an unranked foe arrived on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, a 3-1 defeat against UMass. - During the 2025 season, Harvard went 9-0 against unranked teams.
