Teamwork saves three abandoned dogs found wandering on Galway roadside

Three emaciated dogs found wandering on a country road near Galway city have been given a second chance thanks to the quick actions of a concerned motorist, Galway SPCA and the city dog warden. Three female greyhounds-type dogs, now named Rumour, Tittle and Tattle, were found early on Thursday morning, July 9, by a woman driving to work. Sharing their story on social media, Galway SPCA said: “Not everyone can stop and physically pick up three dog ,nor do we expect them to, but there are other ways to make sure they get to safety and that’s exactly what this lady did. “She searched the internet until she found our kennel managers number and made contact.” Being over an hour away, the kennel manager reached out to the city’s dog warden Tom, who responded without delay and travelled to the area to search for the animals. “By 8.45am it was looking as though these three dogs had left the area as they were nowhere to be seen. By 9am Tom had located them and had all three in his van and was heading back to the city pound. By 9.30am, our kennel manager was on her way into Galway to collect them.” The charity found the dogs had no collars nor microchips. They described them as “three of the most pitiful, emaciated, mange ridden, dejected hounds with open sores on their bodies, over grown nails and plenty of fleas. Their bones protruding through their paperlike skin. The dogs immediately received veterinary treatment and despite their ordeal, the charity said they quickly showed signs that they recognised they were finally safe. “Rumour is the bigger of the three and we now think she is not their mother like we originally though. She is about two years old, a little more composed and unsure than Tittle and Tattle but is a sweet and gentle girl who is blossoming each day . “Tittle and Tattle are like Italian Greyhounds. They are actually teeny tiny, even too small to be classed as Whippets, they weigh a very miserable 5/6 kg. “Tittle is exceptionally cuddly and will do her very best to wriggle in under your armpit for love. Tattle is also sweet natured and loving. They added: “Three girls who were left on a country road to fend for themselves. Already half dead, they were left to completely perish. Nothing we haven’t seen before and sadly we know we will see again.” The charity also paid tribute to the teamwork that led to the rescue: “We would to say a grateful Thank You to Robyn for not ignoring the girls as she drove to work, for taking the time to get them the help. “To Tom the City Dog Warden - Thank You for answering, for getting out there and for ensuring you found these girls were found Going beyond his duties to help them get their happy ending . “To our kennel team who never shy away from extra pressure, extra work and who will now ensure Rumour,Tittle and Tattle go on to find loving homes. “Teamwork really does make the dream work for some.”
