Women's Volleyball Extends Win Streak with Sweep of Providence

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball won its eighth straight match with a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-21, 29-27) of Providence (8-2) inside the Malkin Athletic Center on Friday night. The win continues Harvard's longest winning streak since 2017 and extends its best start in program history. How it Happened The Crimson got out to a 10-5 lead to start the first set, but the Friars went on a 7-1 run to take a 12-11 lead. The teams traded points, and the score locked at 21-all as Harvard took a timeout. The Crimson went on a 4-0 run off of three errors by Providence and a kill from Kayla Nwabueze to finish the set out 25-21. The Friars grabbed the first few points of the second set, but the teams tied five times before Harvard pulled ahead 11-6 and on a 5-0 scoring run that featured kills from Nwabueze and Masina Ogbechie and an ace from Riley Resmer. The Crimson continued to dominate, gaining a 21-15 lead following another ace by Resmer. Providence went on a quick 3-0 run to get back within three at 23-20, but two service errors from the Friars gave Harvard a 25-21 set win. Harvard and Providence tied six times before the Friars sent the set into a media break with a 15-12 lead. Points went back and forth until Harvard got its first match point following a block from Ryleigh Patterson and Ali Farquhar at 24-23. Providence knocked down a kill to make it a deuce set at 24-all, and the Crimson had another match point after a block from Resmer and Ogbechie. Patterson and Ogbechie combined for a block for the final point to win the set and match 29-27. Harvard Highlights - Harvard finished the night hitting .280 with 47 kills, 43 digs, nine blocks and three aces. Providence was held to a .198 clip on 40 kills, 36 digs, five blocks and three aces. - Freshman Kayla Nwabueze led the Crimson with 13 kills, finishing the night with a .333 hitting percentage. Nwabueze also added two digs and two blocks to the game. - Fellow freshman Masina Ogbechie was second on the team with 11 kills on 20 swings, while also posting three digs and three blocks. - Senior Yvette Easton dug up 15 balls to lead all players. Senior Ryleigh Patterson hit five skills and stuffed six blocks on the night. - Junior Riley Resmer hit .600 with three kills on five attacks with no errors. Resmer added four digs, three blocks, and two of Harvard's aces. Next Up Harvard will face Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, to round out the Harvard Invitational at the MAC.
