Heavy Fire Damages Textile Factory In Zakura, One Rescued; Loss Estimated At Rs 35 Lakh

Srinagar: A massive fire broke out in a 2 to 3-storey textile structure in Zakura Industrial Area here on Thursday evening, causing extensive damage to property and machinery. Officials said that a call about the blaze was received at 8:27 PM and fire tenders were immediately rushed from multiple stations. The fire erupted in Silcom Silick Industry, where two to three structures were connected. The roofing of the buildings, along with embroidery machines, raw pashmina, and doors and windows on the second floor, were severely damaged, officials said. To control the flames, fire and emergency units from Fire Station Hazratbal, Nowsera, Soura, Ganderbal, Srinagar Headquarters and Zakura were pressed into service. Police and locals also assisted in the firefighting operation. “Fire was very heavy. One civilian, identified as Mohammad Haseeb Khan, was found unconscious inside and was rescued by Fire and Emergency personnel. He was shifted to hospital and his condition is stated to be stable,” an official said. Preliminary estimates peg the loss at approximately Rs 35 lakh. The cause of the fire is being investigated.(GNS)
