Aker Solutions wins contract for Norwegian hydropower plant

Aker Solutions has secured a contract to supply all electromechanical equipment for the Tussa II hydropower plant, located in the Volda region of western Norway. The plant, owned by Tussa Energi, is part of a capacity expansion initiative, that will see the existing facility modernized. The plant will be kept in operation for additional capacity once the new plant comes online. The Tussa II hydropower plant will feature two 75MW Pelton turbine units providing a total installed capacity of 150MW. This will provide a notable increase from the existing 64MW plant. As part of the scope, Aker Solutions will supply all electromechanical components including inlet pipes, Pelton turbines and generators, control systems, cooling and drainage systems, high‑voltage equipment, and transformers. Jo Kjetil Krabbe, Executive Vice President of Power Solutions at Aker Solutions, commented on the contract: “Hydropower is the backbone of the Norwegian power system and will remain important in the years ahead. Together with Tussa Energi we have developed technical solutions that improve efficiency, increase capacity, and enable better adaptation to future power markets”. Tussa Energi aims for the project to be operational by 2030 and to this end has been working closely with Aker Solutions, Norconsult and the local civil works contractor Aurstad Tunnel. According to Aker Solutions, the contract is valued between NOK 0.5 billion and NOK 1.5 billion. Originally published in Factor This sister publication Enlit World.
