Aerial Knight’s MrFreezy Turns Chopping Off Heads Into An Absorbing Brain

It’s such a treat for me personally when Aerial Knight, developer of such eponymous games as Aerial Knight’s We Never Yield and Aerial Knight’s DropShot, releases a new game. And this latest one is certain to—if you’ll forgive this and other puns to come—turn heads. Releasing on September 1st, Aerial Knight’s MrFreezy has you playing as a female serial killer with a penchant for cutting off men’s heads. While that sounds like a grisly scenario for a video game, Aerial Knight swears it’s chill actually, calling it a “light-hearted puzzle game.” Skeptical but intrigued, I dug deeper into the game’s description to find that the object of MrFreezy is to arrange the heads of your victims so they can be taken in the least number of swings. Different kinds of heads complicate the process, and there are score multipliers to chase, turning decapitation into something of a brain teaser (and one I’m excited to try). It kinda reminds me of Balatro, but instead of collecting jokers to increase your score, you’re collecting heads. As you progress through the game, you’ll learn more about this serial killer and why she’s putting all these heads—some of which will look familiar if you’ve played any of Aerial Knight’s other games—on ice. The game is also set in the same Afro-futurisic version of Detroit we see in Never Yield, creating a shared universe vibe that I think is really unique for a small, Black-owned indie outfit like this.
