Revolt Goes Nuclear! 142 Across 42 States! This Is Just the Beginning!

A major revolt happened Saturday, involving 142 rallies across 42 different states here in the United States of America.
Some of you may have participated in one of these rallies, or maybe you drove by and saw one taking place. But here is the interesting part about this particular movement: It included people from both the left and the right.
Quite frankly, we do not see that very often anymore in today’s day and age.
Despite their political differences, these Americans came together and stood as one against the massive AI data centers going up all across the United States. These facilities are consuming valuable resources, including our water and energy, and many of the local residents directly affected by their construction are raising serious concerns.
There are some pretty bad things that can come with these AI data centers. On the other hand, President Trump and others argue that they are needed for economic prosperity and national security, especially when competing countries are continuing to advance their own artificial-intelligence capabilities.
In the end, you ultimately have to decide where you stand.
A Coordinated Nationwide Revolt
ZeroHedge described the event as the first coordinated national day of action against the AI data-center buildout.
The backlash had previously consisted of smaller local fights spread across approximately 28 states. On Saturday, however, that opposition expanded into 142 protests across 42 states, stretching from Alaska to Florida.
The rallies were organized by Humans First, a nonprofit co-founded and chaired by Tea Party veteran Amy Kremer.
The crowds reportedly spanned both sides of the political aisle. They included a MAGA supporter wearing a “Faith, Family, Freedom” shirt in New Jersey, a first-time activist in Texas, and a left-leaning organizer in California’s Imperial Valley.
I find that rather fascinating. All these different groups came together for one single cause.
In New Jersey, residents of an approximately 8,500-person borough gathered outside the municipal court with drums, plastic horns, and sidewalk chalk. They were protesting a proposed $1.8 billion AI data center that the local planning board approved in May 2025 on the former Merck campus.
The project has reportedly drawn more than 12,000 petition signatures against it. That is roughly 3,500 more signatures than the total population of the town.
Residents held signs reading, “Build community, not data centers.” When heavy rain arrived later in the day, they pulled on ponchos, shared umbrellas, and kept marching.
One of the signs captured at the rally asked an important question:
“You think this is pressure? Wait until there is no water pressure.”
That hits especially close to home for those of us living in Arizona.
We already have water concerns. There are potential water wars coming in our future when you look at everything happening between California, Colorado, Arizona, and the Colorado River. We are going to have some issues in the future, and these data centers could very well hurt areas like ours.
Demonstrations Spread Across the Country
Texas had approximately 18 rallies, while Georgia reportedly held 11. California held eight, while Pennsylvania, Florida, and Indiana each had seven.
In California’s Imperial Valley, a proposed facility could pull approximately 260 million gallons of water per year from the Colorado River.
Around 50 people reportedly turned out to protest that proposed facility despite temperatures reaching approximately 100 degrees.
The demonstrations give you an idea of how deeply concerned people have become about these projects. This is no longer one political group, one organization, or one small community sounding the alarm.
There is a growing movement against AI data centers here in the United States because of the problems many Americans believe these facilities are bringing with them.
Seven in 10 Americans Oppose Local AI Data Centers
A Gallup poll found that seven in 10 Americans oppose constructing AI data centers in their local area.
Nearly half of respondents — 48% — said they strongly oppose the projects. Barely one-quarter said they favor them, including only 7% who strongly favor their construction.
You can see that a majority of Americans do not want these facilities built near their communities.
Why are so many people against them?
There are several major problems associated with the rapid expansion of AI data centers, ranging from soaring electricity consumption to water use, air quality, noise, land consumption, pressure on communities, and uncertain economic trade-offs.
Soaring Energy Demand
The first major concern is the enormous amount of energy these facilities require.
As technology advances and computing demands grow, data centers are becoming increasingly energy-hungry. A single modern AI data center can reportedly use as much electricity as approximately 100,000 homes.
Many of the larger facilities now being built are expected to consume as much as 20 times that amount — the equivalent of roughly 2 million homes.
That is absolutely insane.
Estimates of future power demand from data centers vary significantly. However, one study from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that data centers could represent as much as 12% of all United States electricity consumption by 2028.
That is pretty massive, especially when we talk about plans to transition more of the country toward wind and solar power.
Wind and solar alone are not going to handle this kind of demand. One of the only realistic solutions may be building more nuclear power in order to maintain the grid and meet the soaring energy demands of these AI facilities.
Draining Local Water Supplies
Another major problem is the effect on local water supplies.
This is the issue I am most worried about here in Arizona.
Data centers require huge amounts of water to keep their servers cool enough to function. Midsize facilities can reportedly use as much as 300,000 gallons of water per day. Larger facilities can consume as much as 5 million gallons daily, which is comparable to the amount used by a small town.
Recent estimates project that, by 2028, AI-related data centers in the United States could require as much as 32 billion gallons of water annually.
That would reportedly be enough to support the indoor water use of approximately 360,000 households.
Depending on how many people live inside each home, we are potentially talking about enough water to support hundreds of thousands — or possibly millions — of people for an entire year.
That is an insane amount of water, and it remains one of my biggest concerns about these facilities.
They cannot simply suck up all of our water. We are going to need that water for our homes, farms, businesses, and communities.
Air Pollution and Health Concerns
Another concern involves air pollution and the potential effect on surrounding communities.
Data centers rely on enormous amounts of electricity. Some facilities use gas-fired generation for routine operations, while many also rely on diesel generators for backup power and emergencies.
Both of those energy sources can come with health risks.
The emissions can increase particulate matter in the air people are breathing. Exposure to air pollution and fine particles has been associated with heart problems, asthma risks, respiratory irritation, and other health concerns.
Communities are now asking whether the economic benefits of these facilities are worth the possible effect on their health and air quality.
Noise, Land and Community Pressure
Noise is another issue.
Data centers can operate around the clock, creating constant noise that some residents have compared to motorcycles or jackhammers.
They can also require huge amounts of land. Some projects involve thousands of acres, or more than a square mile, just to build the facilities and supporting infrastructure.
That means these companies are not only competing for water and electricity. They are also competing with local residents, businesses, farms, and future housing developments for available land.
There are also concerns about placing additional pressure on marginalized communities, which may already be dealing with pollution, limited resources, industrial development, or higher energy costs.
The Economic Trade-Off
Supporters argue that data centers will create jobs and bring new investments into communities.
That may be true to a certain extent.
However, artificial intelligence is also expected to eliminate or transform many existing jobs. We are already seeing companies use AI to replace certain tasks previously performed by people.
So, what is the actual economic benefit?
How many permanent jobs will these facilities create after construction is completed? How many other jobs could eventually be lost because of the technology being powered inside them? How much will local taxpayers, utility customers, and communities ultimately pay to support their energy and water demands?
Those are questions that need honest answers.
Why Does America Need These Centers?
With all these negative effects, why should the United States continue building AI data centers?
The answer is that there is an international AI race taking place.
Artificial intelligence can be used for warfare, military planning, intelligence operations, cybersecurity, scientific research, manufacturing, and countless other purposes.
If the United States simply stopped developing AI because of the environmental and community concerns, China would not stop. Russia would not stop. Europe would not stop.
They would continue advancing their AI capabilities, and the United States could be left far behind.
That could put us at a serious disadvantage when it comes to national security.
This is one of the reasons President Trump has moved to accelerate federal permitting for data-center infrastructure. The administration argues that promoting these facilities is necessary to secure economic prosperity, scientific leadership, and — perhaps most importantly — national security.
President Trump’s National-Security Argument
In a June 5, 2026 memorandum, President Trump described artificial intelligence as one of the most transformative technologies in history.
The memorandum argued that, when adopted appropriately, AI can protect American warfighters during peacetime and on the battlefield. It can also enable more precise operations, minimize harm to civilians, and help ensure that the United States maintains a technological advantage over its adversaries and strategic competitors.
That is the argument for continuing to build these facilities.
The United States cannot ignore the technology while other countries move full speed ahead. However, that does not mean companies should be permitted to drain local water supplies, overwhelm the electrical grid, pollute the air, consume enormous amounts of land, and ignore the concerns of the communities being affected.
Better Solutions Are Needed
There has to be a better way forward.
America may need AI technology for economic and national-security reasons, but changes will have to be made in how these data centers are constructed and operated.
They cannot simply consume all of our water.
They cannot be allowed to overwhelm the electrical grid or force local families to pay higher utility rates.
Communities deserve transparency about the amount of water, electricity, land, and public resources each project will require. They also deserve a meaningful voice before these massive developments are approved.
The coordinated rallies across 42 states demonstrate that Americans are beginning to demand those answers.
This is one of those rare issues that appears capable of bringing people on the left and right together. Regardless of their political differences, many residents agree that technological advancement should not come at the expense of their communities, their health, or their most valuable natural resources.
At the same time, America cannot simply abandon the AI race and allow its adversaries to gain an overwhelming advantage.
Where is the balance?
Should the United States continue rapidly building AI data centers for national security and economic development? Or should communities be able to stop these projects when the demands on their water, electricity, and land become too high?
