Valdivia is preparing to host the first edition of L’Étape Chile by Tour de France, a cycling competition that will be held this Sunday and will gather more than 2,200 participants from over 25 countries. The event will include amateur riders and athletes in the Elite category.
Activities began this Friday at Parque Saval, the venue where competitors collect their kits. This process will continue until Saturday, between 10 AM and 7 PM, at the site's Fair Center. The official inauguration of the Village is scheduled for this Friday at 6 PM.
The route covers sectors of Valdivia and its coastal area. Established points include Cuesta de Curiñanco, where the mountain prize will be contested, and the section after Puente Río Cruces, where the Sprint Kilometer will be located. The race will have live coverage via CNN Chile.
"We have been working for months with the Municipality, Carabineros [Chilean police], and health teams to ensure every kilometer of the route is safe," said Macarena Vidal, Race Director of L’Étape Chile.
The event will require traffic modifications on Sunday, November 1st, mainly between 6:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
The restrictions will affect areas in Valdivia, Niebla, and Pufudi. According to the organization, routes will be reopened progressively after the last competitor passes through.
The connection between Valdivia and Niebla is scheduled to reopen from 10:50 AM, while Route 202 towards Pufudi will start reopening from 1:00 PM. In both cases, traffic will be restored in both directions.
Furthermore, Los Robles avenue, between Los Lingues and Los Pelúes, will remain closed from 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 31st until 5:00 PM on Sunday. Parking is also prohibited in that same section starting Saturday afternoon.
L’Étape Chile is organized by World Centric Group and marks the first time this international series of cycling tests associated with the Tour de France has been held in the country.
