Long Beach Opera to Present ‘Acquaprofonda’ at Aquarium of the Pacific By David SalazarLong Beach Opera’s education team will present the return of “Acquaprofonda,” a free family opera created in collaboration with the Aquarium of the Pacific. Performances are scheduled for August 1 – 9, 2026, with shows at noon and 3 p.m. each day at the Aquarium’s Honda Pacific Visions Theater in Long Beach. “Acquaprofonda” follows a girl named Serena who discovers a whale sickened by plastic pollution and enlists the help of a sailor to convince her father to stand up to the local factory harming the ocean. The half hour production is sung in English with supertitles and features music by Giovanni Sollima and a libretto by Giancarlo De Cataldo, translated into English by Elle Moody. The production was created under the Italian platform Opera Education after being commissioned by the Teatro Sociale di Como in co production with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and later won the Filippo Sienbaneck award, given to initiatives in music education and professional training for young people. Long Beach Opera Education created the English language production for its American debut last year. Categories News
